THE PROJECT:

About artSparks
artSparks, a new and experimental program, is bringing the creative energy of Seattle’s vibrant arts community into daily downtown life.   From June through October, three center city parks will each serve as an “art space” for a specific curator or curatorial team. The curators and artists will explore their own artistic interests with performance, sound, painting, words, giant puppets…arts of all kinds. Catch a glimpse, stay and watch, join in, or track all three parks to see what happens.

About artSparks at Occidental Park
Susie J. Lee, a visual artist & Elizabeth A. Umbanhowar, a landscape architect create a program for Occidental inspired by the works of Haruki Murakami. They are partnering with five local artists / arts organizations who will weave themes from Murakami's work such as parallel worlds of the magical and the mundane, elusive relationships, spontaneous journeys and jazz meanderings into interactive performances, readings, music, and visual works for the public to encounter.  For more information on the curation of this park, please visit their blog.

Occidental Park Artists:
Doug Jeck, dkPan, NKO, 826 Seattle, Meredian String Quartet, Katie & Steve Messick, VinaMusica (members of Orchestra Seattle), Gina Coffman, Seth Damm, and Kristin Ougendal.
