Todd Jannausch - GALLERY(206)
June 1 - August 15
Gallery (206) is a public telephone booth that has been repurposed to create interactive public art installation. The transformation into a “gallery” (space) was designed to allow artists from all over Seattle an opportunity to stand together as a whole.
Suzanne Tidwell - KNITTED TREES
June 11-July 15
Suzanne knitted an installation of vividly striped wraps for the vertical surfaces of the park in shades of bright pink, red, orange, yellow, and violet. The installation of "tree sweaters" was timed to coincide with International Yarn Bombing Day on June 11th - a day celebrated by subversive knitters everywhere.
June 22, 29, and July 6, noon to 1:00PM
KlezterBalm features Talia Toni Marcus on fiddle, Marc Smason on trombone, Benny Barnum on clarinet, and Oleg Ruvinov on Tuba. KlezterBalm plays music from the Eastern European Yiddish and Middle Eastern traditions, and believes that music can help improve the world.
Dancing Hats Productions - DANCING HATS FESTIVAL
July 5-7, 6:00-9:00PM
Dancing Hats Productions presents Dancing Hats, in Occidental Park. Dancing Hats is a free, three-evening event for Seattle residents of all neighborhoods that celebrates the many “hats” we wear in our lives.
Celeste Cooning - HONEYCOMB CLOUDS
July 12-August 20
Honeycomb Clouds, a cut paper installation by Celeste Cooning, harkens to the intricate and complex self-organizing systems found in maritime stratocumulus clouds. Many hand cut pieces are sewn together and hung between the trees in Occidental Park to create this ethereal environment.
Michelle Arab - SHADOWCAST CANOPY
July 18-31
While many people look up, Michelle Arab tends to look down. Shadowcast Canopy will highlight these lost shadows and focus attention down to the ground by casting inverted shadow patterns from the surrounding overhead tree canopy onto the paving.
Sarah Ferreter & Jenny Kempson - LIFELINES
August 1-22
Silvery, reflective rings will appear to hover around the trunks of the London plane trees that grow in Occidental Park. On the ground at the foot of the tree, beneath these floating circles, colorful rings radiate out from the trunk and begin to converge.
Perri Lynch - SHORELINE
August 24-September 30
With the central waterfront now in the early stages of redevelopment and the City’s shoreline master plan under revision, this collaborative, temporary installation provides visitors with multiple perspectives on one of Seattle’s most defining edges. A series of split boulders, chalk drawings, photographs and text provide reference points and contemplative waymarks to convey the multi-layered tale of Seattle’s enduring shore.
LSq - FLOCK OF SEAGULLS
August 29-September 30
Flock of Seagulls at Occidental Park is a kinetic sculpture that floats within the canopy of Occidental Park’s London plane trees. Inspired by a well-known but often overlooked Pioneer Square occupant.
11am-2pm, August 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19
4-7pm, August 6
In the creative world today many feel that one needs a series of letters after their name to be successful. An MFA? or BFA? Possibly even a PhD? What if all you needed was a License? Of course, true artistic license does not require a legal document, but the Department of Artistic Licensing will be open this summer to make them for anyone who would like one.
October 6, 6pm
Saint Genet presents Transports of Delirium (Aesthetic Ascesis in 4 Acts), a "Declaration of Aesthetics," culminating in a large-scale performance event featuring a short form operatic work, movement, and image. Presented in Occidental Square Park on October 6th beginning at 6pm, the pieces will be followed by a foggy procession to a dead gallery. This is the first public offering for this tempestuous young company.
