Whistlestop Dance Company
Dancin' Z Path
This site-specific dance event, created by Charlene Curtiss of Light Motion and Joanne Petroff and Debbie Gilbert of Whistlestop Dance Co., honors the beauty of the Olympic Sculpture Park and highlights its accessibility. Following a lecture demonstration in the PACCAR Pavilion to introduce the project, wheelchair and standup dancers, working in integrated pairs and accompanied by musicians Eric Chappelle and Ela Lamblin, will dance their way through the Olympic Sculpture Park using various works of art for inspiration. This event is part of SAM's Taking the Pulse program. To learn more about this program, visit SAM's website at http://www.seattleartmuseum.
Since its beginning in 1976, Whistlestop has earned a reputation for excellence in creating dance experiences for people of all ages and abilities. The Dance Educators Association of Washington awarded Whistlestop its 1996 Honor Award for outstanding contribution to dance education in Washington public schools. In 2009, Debbie and Joanne were the keynote presenters for the University of Washington Jackson School of International Studies K-12 Mosaic.
