Performance Painting

Gita Lloyd has done two projects for Site Specific this year.  The first is entitled: Promethean Performance Painting.  Gita attended Fall City Days this past June and painted the event while it was happening.  However, it is more accurate to say that she performed events as they were happening.  If the event is musical, for instance, she would dance as she paints.  When the event is over, so is the painting.

Gita’s second Site Specific project is called From Windows to Mirrors: Auburn from 1885.  She was one of the numerous artists at Auburn’s ArtRageous Artists in Action Fair.  Armed with a present day location and people and archival images of and references about the site Gita creates a historical painting informed by the site’s present day milieu.  The work is both a window into the past and a mirror of the present.
