Khambatta Dance Company

Sweet Suite for Downtown Kent

THE PROJECT:

On Saturday, June 5 the Kent Arts Commission will celebrate the installation of Sweet Suite for Downtown Kent by Elizabeth Conner. The artwork dedication will take place alongside the five illuminated sculptures, which are located Town Square Plaza, on Second Avenue between Harrison and Smith streets.   The five sculptures range in size from 20” to 48” tall. In order to emphasize the organic texture of the trees’ pods, the sculptures have a rust patina. This natural finish prevents the sculptures from being easily damaged.

The artist Elizabeth Conner will be joined by Mayor Cooke and Councilmember Ranniger. After a short ceremony, Khambatta Dance Company will perform a piece that was choreographed especially for this occasion. This event is free and open to the public, rain or shine, all ages welcome. It is sponsored by the Kent Arts Commission and 4Culture Site Specific, in conjunction with the season's first Farmers Market.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

The Khambatta Dance Company contrasts rigorous partnering and athletic movement with authentic human content to create emotionally moving dance that is both visually beautiful and physically demanding.

Since arriving in Seattle from New York in 2001, its’ programming has been seen throughout the West Coast and abroad by over 10,000 people with works ranging from undercover site-specific pieces that spring to life around unsuspecting audiences to staged full-length interdisciplinary productions.
